Can ps games be played on a ps console?

Can ps games be played on a ps console?
there are some games that I want that are PS games and I only have a PS console.....Ive heard different answers from lots of people and was wondering if anyone out there knows the definite answer...please and thank you

All these people neglected to mention one VERY IMPORTANT POINT. Yes a PS CAN play PS games. The IMPORTANT DETAIL is that you have to use a PS Memory Card when playing a PS game. YOU CANT SAVE PS GAMES ON A PS MEMORY CARD. Well you can transfer a save from a PS memory card onto the PS memory card but you cant play them that way it is just a good way to store saves if you need the memory card slots. So yeah you can play PS games on a PS BUT you have to use a PS Memory Card. Oh and the PS did use the dual analog sticks towards the end.
